Favorite Fictional Characters, #2: Obi-Wan Kenobi

Writer's picture: Joe PaceJoe Pace

Twenty years in the Mos Eisley cantinas age a man.

Not the best of Star Wars (Vader, always), but my personal favorite, especially the older I get. Loyal, wise, brave, tragic. Alec Guinness' portrayal is iconic, of course, but I think Ewan McGregor absolutely inhabited the role, breathing a rare spot of quality into the largely soporific prequels. Frankly, I was kind of rooting for him to win Amidala rather than his squeaky padawan. As an aside, I subscribe to the fan theory that Rey is his grandchild. She fights with his style, has a hint of his accent, and other little clues. To me, Kenobi will always be the true hero of the whole cycle.
